You could be speaking the wrong girls.
But some girls like a challenge, and often girls find someone they can 'work on' per say and the feeling of this new man they've created somehow draws them closer and establishes a history for them. I get it makes absolutely no sense, but some girls have been through so many REAL assholes, that they just want a nice guy. So it really does depend on who you talk to, and if you try to be more of an asshole, I wouldn't take it too far. Being slightly more distant and hard to get is different than starting to verbally abuse, or abuse in any way or demean them as a character - no, girls don't like that. Lol asshole and challenging are a bit different.
