You can apply any time after you reach age 61 and 9 months, so you could apply in November of this year for benefits effective February 1, 2015, payable on March 1, 2015.
The Social Security website is surprisingly good for a government web page. Go to www.socialsecurity.gov for all kinds of information.

Yep, it is surprising that the gov't got something right!!!Site is easy to use, and I found the people in my local ss office to be very nice and helpful, a pleasant change from normal gov't dunces!!!!!
