The new daily slap in the face from yahoo halves the useful area of my monitor. What can I do?

I would not "Get the App", even if I wanted "A personalized news stream" disparately from a source that would do that to my monitor. The ad has been there for weeks, but up to yesterday it disappeared from the screen when I clicked. This morning it has followed me from "Science and Math to "Yahoo Products" I'm really angry. What can I do?

Almost as bad, I can't edit this question, nor make a comment. My only alternative is to answer my own question. Please Yahoo, get it right, and stop making "improvements" Sarcasm intended. I hate to think of the yahoo chaos when boo-hiss windows 9 is inflicted upon us. I'm steamed. Third world country!! The ad stays in the lower left, but I can move every thing else with the right and left arrows, on the screen and/or the key board. I'm using a desk top computer with usual boo-hiss windows 8 features. Sorry about the excess detail, but this likely my last chance to edit by any means. Edit: I see I can edit the answer to my own question. That explains why so many questions are "answered" by the person who asked the question. Confusing as it is far from obvious as that one "answer" is by the person who asked the question, usually with more details.
