What does this metaphor mean in the catcher in the rye?? HELP?

    "I began to feel like a stupid person"; "I began to feel embarrassed." The idiom "horse's a.s.s" (that is, the rear part of a horse) means a stupid person. "Prize," in this case, is an adjective, meaning "an excellent example of" something.

    So he "feels like a very, very stupid person".
