My emails won't go away!?

I have an iPod Touch 5. When I delete my emails, they end up popping back up. I don't know how to fix that to make them permanently go away. Any help?

I've seen that with our mailserver (UW IMAP). I don't understand it - seems like a bug in the Apple mail client. I've looked at the network traffic and IMAP commands - the phone tells the server to mark the message as deleted, then to expunge the mailbox (remove all the marked messages), and the server does that and reports success. But the phone shows them again from its local copy. If you look on the server with a different mail client, they're really gone.

Other third-party email apps don't have the problem.
