Why does my Puppy keep peeing?

I've had her for about a month, she was a stray on the street, and I'm guessing she is around 3-4 months old.

I put her outside for a little bit to do what she needs to, and she does do a wee. But after I leave her outside for a bit and then go out and see her, she jumps up all excited and then she pee's. It's only a little bit a time, but after I think she has it all out, I let her in and then she gets really excited again and when she came in, I found 5 different spots with a little bit of wee. She doesn't squat when she does it, and a couple times she has done when stretching up on to my legs. So it's not like she even knows she is doing it. I thought it maybe an UTI, but I will be taking her to the Vet during the week to get her micro-chipped and vaccinated. I just thought I may be able to get a little bit of advice first.

She is a Poodle X Foxy Terrier Mix if that makes any difference.

A lot of puppies (esp small breeds) do this when nervous or excited. Almost all the time they outgrow it, and I've found the most effective way to try and prevent this is by ignoring my puppy completely for the first few minutes of greeting. If you pet her, talk to her in an excited tone, or even startle her she loses control of her sphincter and has a small accident. If you begin to ignore her for the first several minutes of letting her in or getting home, give her affection only when she's calmed down, and even then make an attempt not to get too excited because she could still lose control of her bladder, you'll know pretty soon if this is the case with your pup. If this is the cause, there's a very good chance that she will gain control of her urinary sphincter in time, almost all outgrow it,. Definitely keep your appt with the vet to rule out a congenital abnormality or UTI, but try the tips I've mentioned in the meantime so you can give your vet a more informed description.

Here is a website that may help give you an idea of the issue I mentioned, the second half of the page seems to apply to your case more than the beginning.

This is most probably submissive urination which many puppies will do if they are a little insecure, worried. It will pass but it might be worth mentioning to your vet when you next see him. Keep her somewhere these dribbles don't 'matter' (off carpets!!). On the other hand, you might collect some of her urine and take it with you when you see your vet, just in case there is a UTI going on.

Early spay can lead to spay incontinence later on, but not, I'd suggest at this young age.

ps I'd have to go with creaturenurse's suggestion re ignoring her when you first come in - ditto with visitors. Avoiding/preventing situations you don't want is almost always the best way forward. And another thought - she could just have a weak bladder (juvenile) at the moment - again one to discuss with your vet.

I know that puppies have difficulty holding their pee. My puppy likes to use the puppy about every 2 hours!

    T-T

It sounds like a UTI, since it's just leaking out. I'm also wondering if she was spayed before you got her. That can cause urine leaks in pups. Definitely tell the vet about it!

    Cheers and happy puppy raising!

Best to get the vet to check her out. But I am not sure you are taking her outside enough to encourage her to wee and poo. Dont look at her when you stay outside with her, just say "wee" without any excitement until she does and then you can treat her. But to wee when she is just stretching................hmm, doesnt sound right. Hopefully some antibiotics will fix it up for her.

So here we have another individual that feels they are above the law and steals someones dog. It isn't your dog to keep!

Turn the dog into a shelter where if there is an owner they may claim it. If no owner is found, then and only then if you wish you may legally adopt it.

How would you feel if someone found your dog and decided to keep it?

Not all puppies can talk, so sometimes they use urination as a form of communication.

Like, she might just do a little "hello" squirt, or a "hey, I'm so lucky to be yours" piddle.
