I have an older acer laptop a 5610Z - is itpossible to amend the Bios to allow more memory to be installed or is it an architecture issue.?
ok lets just assume I`m not a total newbie and I already know that stuff - the question is as above but nobody has answered it - done all that other stuff. A step or two on from just checking the website. Acer never bothered to amend the Bios even once after the original.

I think your only allowed 2gb max of ram at a time, you only have 1gb of ram now unless you've upgraded it since you got it. But yes you can modify the bios if your hardware supports the ram, but you would need a bios update from the manufacturer and seen as this computer is no longer on sale and you said they haven't amended it once then it's really unlikely unless you contact them yourself or find a bios update online but I wouldn't recommend the second option if it's not official.

It's a physical architecture issue not a BIOS issue. Check with the web site that you have the max installed now.

You do not say what you have now.
Your laptop specs state that you have two memory slots with a max of 1024MB ie 1GB in each slot.
You have a hardware limit of 2048MB ie 2GB of memory in total.
If you can update just fit the memory card and it should work
Your Ram is DDR2 and the best is PC2 5300

You can always check their web site for a BIOS upgrade that might allow more memory to be installed
