How to get used to using guitar picks?
I play acoustic guitar and always used my fingers. I want to start using picks because I'm buying an electric guitar soon. I've bought Planet Waves .50 super light picks but it feels awkward using them. How do I get used to them?

Use thin picks to start out. I use Fender. It takes practice to get used to holding a pick. You will drop it in the hole many times, haha! My teacher taught me to hold the pick with the curved end facing the string and the pointy end towards the end of the guitar. That way you won't drop it and it will sound better. Especially for flatpicking and bluegrass. But any way can work.
Good luck! :)

Get a variety of picks. One will tell you it's right one (for now anyway). Or how about keep on using fingers? Jeff Beck more or less gave up on picks. Many of the "biggies" same like that.

Buy smaller Dunlop Jazz III picks. They're less cumbersome
or a secret of mine is to cut(scissors) the larger 1mm picks I have down to Jazz III size

Buy thicker ones. I never like to use flappy light ones because I lose the feel and can't play guitar properly.

buy different size, thickness picks play with the one which you like most or you can use different picks for different type of playing
