How can I download gifs and make them into a screensaver?

I guess this is a two-part question. I would appreciate any answers, even if you only know the answer to one part.
First, how do I download gifs onto my computer? I have Windows Vista. When I try to save a gif to my computer, it only gives me the option to save it as a PNG file, which doesn't move. That kind of defeats the purpose; I want to keep the animation.
Second, after I get the gifs, is it possible to string them together into a screensaver, the way you can make a slideshow of still pictures into a screensaver? Thanks!
