Dogs Are Cool asked in PetsDogs · 7 years ago

why does my grandmas greyhound have such low energy?

When I went over to her house I noticed her greyhound was lying around like always so I took it on a walk and it got really tired and was panting really hard and we had gone less than a fourth of a mile and when we got back it drank water and lied down for like 6 hours. It is only like 4 years old and it used to be in racing so why is it so lazy?

Update:

she said it was going to the vet soon for a check up, but her dog is always like that and it goes to the vet a lot

Greyhounds are usually couch potatoes, but this sounds a lot more serious than just laziness. A dog at that age should not be laboring to breathe after a short walk.

The others are right, take her/him to the vet.

The dog needs a vet check! That's not normal behaviour for a 12 year old greyhound, let alone one that's only 4.

Could be heartworms, a heart condition, a liver problem, a vet can do a blood test that checks the function of the organs and that's where i'd start.

It needs to go to the vet and get checked out. Very soon.
