You can live well on $600/mo if you are reasonably frugal and by that, I don't mean dinner out every night. Fruits and veggies are cheap and plentiful here, as well as, fresh fish, etc. I retired to Cabarete in April 2013. I get almost $2850 a month and I have a ton of $$$ left over every month. I have banked over $23,000 since I moved here from Portland, OR.

That would be your best bet. The north coast. But the north coast is not as nice as the south. With the exception of samana.
