try with the following steps,
1.)Reset the wireless router by using the power switch on it or by unplugging it and plugging it back in.
2.)Place the wireless router in an ideal location. The higher it is, the better, but don't put it near metal objects.
3.)Get as close as possible to the router with whatever device you're trying to connect.
4.)Keep the router and your connecting device away from other electronics. You should especially keep away from phones, fax machines and microwaves. etc.,
5.)Adjust the Wifi antenna if it has one.
6.)Change the router's channel, especially if other wireless routers are nearby.Following these steps would give you stable internet connection and also increased speed in connection. You can check your internet speed from http://www.scanmyspeed.com/ before and after following these steps.

I think 100 Mbps speed is good internet speed.

29 mbps is really fast. 3 mbps is still pretty decent. She could have more devices hooked up to that WiFi connection and she could be using it more than you. It also depends how much she's paying for her internet provider.

Hi this is not something you can do be fiddling with settings. knowledge of what you are dealing with is though. we only get what we pay for in this life and broadband speed is one of those and distance from a local telephone exchange where the broadband is served from.
line length has a dramatic effect on what you call speed which really is bandwidth. also the type of delivery system to the home a standard copper wire fed system does limit the bandwidth unlike the optic fibre systems that are starting to be installed.

Find out what her internet speed is supposed to be. Chances are if she only has DSL, that is a decent speed. Otherwise, slow speeds might be due to network saturation (someone on the network torrenting). Try connecting directly to the modem and see if that makes a difference.

The more important question is how much upload speed do I need? That will determine the download speed.
