Do you agree with Obama that the Islamic State is not Islamic?

If so, what do you think Muhammad did during his life?

I am pretty sure Muhammad was the one who invented the 'convert to Islam ('the religion of truth'), pay unbeliever tax ('Jizya'), or else 'fight the unbelievers until they feel they have conquered' strategy that the Islamic State is using. It is in the Koran, Hadith, and other Islamic texts.

Bill Maher summed it up best: "Sorry Mr President, but saying Isis isn't Islamic is like saying Mel Gibson isn't Catholic; religions don't include just the ones you like"

Source(s): a belief in martyrdom, a hatred of infidels, and a commitment to violent jihad are not fringe phenomena in the Muslim world. These preoccupations are supported by the Koran and numerous hadith.

Yes i agree because Islam is against terrorism.

first off ISIS does not have a caliph, a caliph is selected by the Muslims not self declares himself a caliph.

second the Qur'an is from God not from Prophet Muhammad pbuh and what he said is from God.

and you are misquoting and are misinformed.

Jizya tax was for the protection of the disbelievers, it funds the state, etc . you have to pay taxes to your govt so what is the problem here? the Muslims have a different fee its called zakat and it is OBLIGATORY whether under the rule of a caliph or not.

and jizya is less than of zakat.

Qur'an 9:29 is talking about the disbelievers who were attacking the Muslims and a citizen of the state has to pay his/her taxes otherwise the state will come after you, plz read the link

    -----

In conclusion, verse 9:29 commands Muslims to fight against only those who initiate agression as illustated by its historical context. Muslims may only fight under strict conditions, and are commanded to live peacefully with peaceful non-muslim neighbors.

Freedom of religion is an essential aspect in an Islamic state. One of the five pillars of Islam is zakat (almsgiving). The People of the Book (Christians and Jews) are not obliged to pay the Islamic zakat that is spent by the state for social necessities and state affairs as defined in the Quran (see 9:60). But they must pay other taxes to share in the state budget. If they refuse to pay this tax to the state and rebel against the state, then it is the obligation of the state to confront them until they pay it. This is what Caliph Abu Bakr did after the death of the Prophet, when some people refused to pay zakat. (Hathout, Jihad vs. Terrorism; US Multimedia Vera International, 2002, p.53)

The verse mentions Jizya, which is unfortunately misunderstood by some people. Like any nation, the Islamic government requires its citizens to pay taxes in return for its services. Since Muslims pay the Zakat, the non-muslim citizens are required to pay Jizya (for more information on Jizya, please refer to Jizya in Islam and Jizyah and non-muslim minorities). Dr. Monqiz As-Saqqar writes concerning the Jizya tax:

I think that the people who choose to call themselves "the Islamic State" would be surprised to learn that they are considered to be Islamic.

Do I believe that their political and social agenda, and their desire for power and wealth is probably more of a motivator for their actions. Yes. Their religion is just their way of justifying or excusing their actions.

But I do believe that the people in ISIS are Muslims. I do not believe that all Muslims are in support of ISIS.

No. All these things and more (worse) can be found in their own scriptures...the Qur'an and "authentic" hadiths. Someone, sooner or later, would have to try to apply them in their most literal senses.

I spent about 10 years as a sympathetic student of Islam and about as long living with Muslims. As long as Muslims are willing to put these scriptures forward as a basis of their belief and practice, without ever examining their historical veracity or plain injustice they contain, what else can be expected?

No i dont. These muslims may be radical but their still muslims . They just want it to go back to the old times wherewomen are suppressed and men can do what they want. Muslim men are scared their women will become smart ..
