Question about comcast x1 thing?

Okay, I like it, but I just don't get why if I'm recording a program on my box, and if my brother recorded the same thing on his, why it deletes on mine even though only he watched it. We just got the x1 thing today and I started to record south park on my box, he recorded south park on his, and when he deletes or cancels a recording, it does the same thing on mine. I thought this wasn't suppose to do this? I'm really disappointed in how this operates.

My understanding is that the boxes share recordings, so you aren't creating 2 recordings of that episode of South Park. Only 1. So if he deletes it, it's gone.

Yes this is a common problem for households where multiple family members want to watch the same show but don't watch it at the same time.

One suggestion is if you watch a show and it starts at the beginning, that means you're the first one to watch it. Don't delete the show. Instead, leave it near the end of the recording. If you watch a show and it starts at the end of the recording, that means you aren't the first one to watch the show. (e.g. your brother already watched it.) Therefore you are free to delete the show when you are done with it.
