Potentially...but...highly unlikely.
1. A woman is unlikely to be fertile a few days before menstruation - ovulation occurs typically 14 days before menstruation, also she's fertile up to a week beforehand - although it is possible for menstruation to be closer to ovulation this wouldn't give enough time for implantation if an egg were fertilised so not result in pregnancy.
2. Unless a woman is using Fertility Awareness Methods there is no way for her to know when she is fertile or not, it may be that she thinks her period is about to start so she assumes she isn't fertile...however if her cycle is longer than normal ovulation may occur later than expected, thus she's not due to menstruate and instead could be fertile. A woman should always assume she could be fertile, so always use birth control.
3. If a woman menstruates she is not pregnant, and it is biologically impossible to get pregnant during menstruation as there is no egg present...but...if that cycle is short she could be fertile during menstruation, this means sperm could live long enough to still be alive by the time she does ovulate. Again...a woman should always assume she could be fertile, so always use birth control.
If this has happened to you/your partner you can still use emergency contraception:
- Plan B can be used up to 3 days after sex.
- EllaOne and IUD's can be used up to 5 days after sex.
If no longer an option take a pregnancy test 2 weeks after sex, and learn form the mistake.
Pre-ejaculate itself does NOT contain sperm...but...if the guy ejaculated earlier in the day without urinating afterwards then sperm could have remained in the urethra and so get flushed out along with the pre-ejaculate. Risk of pregnancy from pre-ejaculate are slim, even if there is sperm present it's in much smaller quantities than in ejaculate so less chance of sperm making it to the egg. There is still a risk however.
