Does taking notes help memorization better than focused listening?

My professor types details of an outline of notes as we talk about it in class and when we are finished discussing that particular topic, he will send us the complete notes as a word document because he wants to save us the trouble of scrambling to write everything down. However, I didn't do that great on my first test. I could just be my study habits, but I am going to write down the notes that will be covered on the next test as an experiment to see if it better helps me remember and comprehend them. What are your thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

The answer to your question varies from person to person - it depends on how your brain works. I do better just listening but that's not true of everybody.
