Do you have cancer? What do you want to hear?

has had a port put in her head for chemo

My best friend was diagnosed last July with stage IV breast cancer that has spread to her bones. She had a mastectomy, ovaries removed, it continued to spread into her spinal fluid. They thought they had a clear scan of the spine and it is back. She is in pain, confused, with a port in her head for the spinal fluid cancer

and a port that has been in her chest for the metastatic breast cancer. She is losing the battle, yes? She refuses to hear prognosis from her Doctor and so does her mother. So I am left to google. She has lost a ton of weight over the past few weeks and on morphine and methadone. I am her best friend. We tell each other everything. What am I supposed to say to her now? I had so much hope...

She does not have two different cancers. She has metastatic breast cancer that has spread to the bones and to the spinal fluid. There is no cure and at this point in time, there are most likely no options. Your friend should be being advised to seek out hospice care so that she can have good pain management.

Hope does nothing for breast cancer. We need more research. Don't buy the pink ribbon crap. Donate directly to a research fund. You can find the address for one at: http://www.iwantmorethanapinkribbon.com/

Source(s): I have Stage IV breast cancer with bone and liver mets.
