Pouring water into radiator?

Tonight I had to pull over because my car was overheating. I had topped off the radiator fluid earlier today, and drove it a few miles a short while after. When I stopped tonight, I put the hood up, and let the engine cool for about 15 minutes. Then I poured 3/4 of a gallon jug of water into the radiator. After doing more research, I am afraid that I didn't wait long enough to let the engine cool before pouring the water in. I am very worried that I damaged my engine.

Any advice is appreciated, thank you for your answer.

If pouring cool water in your radiator cracked your block, you'd know about it by now It would be leaking coolant all over. Find out where the leak is and fix it. You're playing with fire here by driving it in this condition.
