Yahoo! Answers strikes again. "Your criteria doesn't match...". Has subject-predicate agreement gone away? Is "criterion" extinct?

The likelihood is that awkward nouns like criterion are vanishing from the English language. When was the last time you heard anybody use datum, for example? We all talk about data, singular or plural. Same with criteria. And as I noted above to correct someone else, "does" is NOT both singular and plural.

Yes, I think "criterion" is all but buried. I hear this error quite often, on newscasts and other supposedly informed sources. Another one that occurs frequently enough to be annoying is "media" which seems to be applied to singular as well as plural cases.
