Is it really so bad to work at a casino?

I am really desperate to work right now. I've gotta pay those bills!! I nailed an interview last week at the casino. I thought for sure I'd be a busser or a dishwasher, but they're making me a server! Yay!! I'm so excited, it's too good to be true! Some friends and family are worried and saying,'A casino?! There's so much smoke there, it's not good for you!' But I said it's in their restaurant, so maybe it's not so bad. Plus, I'm so desperate for a job with benefits, a 401K, and full-time! That's really hard to find right now! ...at least it's been hard for ME for many years. They tell me to keep on looking, but maybe casinos aren't a death sentence? Advice please?? Thank you!

Casinos are great to work at actually. The tips are higher and more frequent (gamblers' mentality). The package you mentioned sound good and fit your needs at this point of time, so go for it. Some people have their own personal judgemental view on casinos but don't let that hold you back from what would work for you right now. A job is a job and you have bills to pay. It's not like you're joining the mafia, you are working in a respectable job in a licensed establishment. Remember, if you don't take it others are queueing for it. Good luck!

Many states have banned smoking in casino restauants. I think that you should take the job. It is not often that you find a server job that offers benefits. If you find out that you do not like it, you can always leave.
