What type of businesses are thriving in Johor Bahru?

Especially Skudai area.

I want to open a food business in that place. What are your suggestions on the types of food I can sell to generate good income?

Local Fast Food would be a good choice. Things to be kept in mind is clean atmosphere, hygienic food condition, food presentation and a price survey. For a clean atmosphere you can use a well decorated kiosk or a good tent if you have a permanent place.

nasi lemak, peranakan cuisine, Otak (especially otak since they're easy to carry & most people would like to buy them). Also try selling American fish n chips (fried fish, fried scallops, fried fishball). Must have Biryani rice & coconut rice. Curry tofoo.

also make sure you sell ice tea & cool drinks (tropical fruit drinks) people will swarm the store like bees. Pick a good location where it's near train station or bus stops, tired travelers would need refreshment immediately upon disembarking from the long bus ride or before getting on the next transportation.

You said Johor Bahru (I just went there December) looks like lots of people since Singaporean & malaysians travel here. Because there's many Muslims so make sure food is Halal. No pork.

Have a few chairs & small tables so visitors can sit down & seep cool drinks between meals.

Bobo drinks are very popular in US & asia right now, have some Bobo drinks so Muslims, Chinese, Malay, Indian & caucasian can all enjoy.

oh, that's all I can think of right now ;-)

PS: Don't forget Satay (in US it's called Kebab, Persian meat skewers).

Make your satay inventive by making them not just all meat but with meat with veggies, pineapples, red bell pepper alternating so customers will find the pretty colours exciting to sample.

(Mango shrimp kebabs, American style corn+chicken kebabs see pic) Seafood kebabs, & the traditional satay (beef/lamb) with peanut sauce.

(alot of the food appeal is visual so make sure it looks yummy)

(decorate your store to look artsy & hip)

Food business is always in fashion because people are always hungry. *laughs*
