Crested Gecko Help?
I am getting a crested gecko as of now and I want to know everything I can before November. In November I will be going to the reptile expo and I will pick out my crestie. What should I look for in a crestie when picking one? What is a cheap set-up? What can I feed them? What else should I know about them? Also, can I see a picture of your fave crestie? I love cresties with personality!

Picking one: Look for an active gecko. You don't want one that just sits there and doesn't look "there" that could indicate an unhealthy lizard. Look at the eyes, make sure they are bright. Also look at the skin make sure there are no abrasions. It might look dull if he is in shed. Also ask how he has been eating, when was the last time they fed it, and what they fed it. You can also ask to see the parents if they have them and look to see if they are healthy too.
Setup: No adult crested gecko can live in a " cheap" setup. Of course you can go really elaborate or really simple, but even a simple setup requires a lot of climbing space, and tons of fake plants. They hide all day, so they need lots of plants to hide in. Exo-Terra makes a great vine that works perfect for wrapping all around the tank. Height is the most importnant thing in a tank size. I use a 12x12x18 inch exo-terra tank and thats perfect for all its life. Make sure they have an elevated water and food bowl, because they won't want to go to the ground to eat or drink.
Feeding: The best gecko diet is called Repashy Crested Gecko Diet. It is a powder that you mix with water and they love it. It has everything they need to thrive in it. Feed them as much as they will eat every two days. You can also feed them live crickets every two-three weeks. And fruits such as mashed strawberries, bananas, and peaches every two weeks.
Tips: My best advice for you is to look up a whole bunch of crested gecko care sheets. They will give you all the information you need. Be careful when handing your gecko, as if you pinch or grab their tail it very well could fall off. Don't handle him for two weeks after he gets to his new home.
Enjoy!
