When do you Hold short of an ILS?

I was instructed to us taxiway Z, H, after requesting taxi to the active runway. as i neared the end of the taxi way i rolled up on an ILS hold short line, so I asked to cross it. Is it assumed you are ok to cross it if the tower does instruct you to hold short of it?

    As far as ATC is concerned, you only have to hold short of the ILS critical area when ceilings are below 800 feet or visibility is less than 2 miles. A good way to know this is if the taxi way lights are on during daytime or at night the ATIS will give you such info. A/C are required to hold short of the runway hold short lines (two dashed two solid yellow lines) before they contact local control. But TECHNICALLY, if you are in communication with ground control, you can taxi up to the runway edge so long as you don't protrude onto the runway or ATC instructs otherwise. But like I said, unless the ILS/MLS critical area is being protected, just stay behind the hold short lines.

    What Jack said, except it's when ceilings are below 1000 feet or visibility less than 3 miles.

    I'm not sure where he's getting 800 feet and 2 miles, but an 'air traffic controller' should know this.
