    Good: -Kino finds the pearl

    -I can't remember much else

Bad: -Coyotito dies at the end

-Jauna and Kino fight over it when Jauna wants to throw it back in the ocean

-Pearl Buyers attempt to trick kino

    -Family has to flee

    -doctor won't cure coyotito

    - many other things

So many teachers teach that the theme of this story is that you should not be overcome with greed, which I disagree with. Kino was not greedy at all if you think about it. He just wanted a better life for his family, and the Spanish oppression/society ruined that for him as a Native American. A better theme would be that There is something wrong with society and it's oppression. Read the book next time, it was good.

What was good was that he found hope in the pearl, in what it meant for his family and their future. On the bad side, the pearl led to such corruption and anger and fear, that Kino's family was ruined in the end. It showed the darker side of humanity and its greed.
