I'm in college and can't afford my new car insurance rates (new driver)?
So I have had a 2011 sentra for 4 months. I got my license sep 16 (turned 18). I can pay my $250 for car $60 for insurance $80 for other monthly expenses. However, my dad just put me as a driver yesterday. They moved my insurance up to $160 a month just for me!!! I can't afford that with a part time job and minimum wage!!! Is there any insurance policies that offer better prices? Maybe my own policy? I think I have farmers. My dad suggested getting rid of the car but I can't beause I have no other way to school and the bus doesn't run on time for my night classes. Also, I may be doing the disney college program in florida and the minimum wage is less there! ALSO if I do that (it's my dream!), I will have to pay for housing and food (it will be full time though and some over time). HELP I'm only 18! This is crazy!
Oh and I have payments (the 250) for the car so my dad says that makes a difference with the insurance when you are still paying for it.

I would look at quotes from other companies and see if everything your insurance currently includes is needed. $160 a month does seem a tad high for insurance, but you're dad is right that if you're still paying for a car you're insurance will be effected. You might also have really good insurance which would make sense you're paying more. If you're accident prone it might be worth getting better insurance than risking an accident that won't be covered by your insurance and being without a car, but still having to pay for one. I've heard the general is suppose to be a pretty cheap insurance company and you can apply for a free quote by filling in your information on their website.
$250+$160+$80= $490 and to me, that is a lot to pay for a car. Your dad might be right on selling the car, but you could also try saving for a cheaper car you can pay outright so you don't have a car payment and only have to cover insurance.
Disney pays above minimum wage for cast members and even CP's. Right now the starting pay for Disney is $9.00hr, but depending on the job you get you could make more. The minimum wage in FL (I believe) is right around $7.93 so Disney is paying $1 per hour or more and while that doesn't sound like much if you're working 40hr/week that's an extra $40 a week to your paycheck. If you stay in Disney housing expect to spend around $75 a week for housing and groceries are completely based on what your spending habits are. If your money conscious you can shop based on sale items and coupon to help cut down on the cost even more. It is doable to live comfortably with the hours Disney provides CP's, but adding almost $500 to your expense for the car might honestly make it impossible to work there without having to pick up extra shifts whenever you can find them.
I don't know what your family's financial situation is and if your parents could or would be willing to help you out by paying what you have left on the car off and letting you pay them back at a smaller amount per month for longer. You might even be able to look into refinancing with the people you bought the car from (or got the loan through), but chances are good you'll end up paying a lot more doing it through them where your parents might be nice and just ask you pay what they have to.

Getting your own insurance would cost more. Insurance with only a teenager typically costs between two and ten times as much as insurance with a teenager and a parent. What policy the parent has is almost always the cheapest option for the teenager.
If you cannot afford what insurance costs in the place where you live, then you have only two options:
1) Don't live there. Move to where insurance is cheaper.
2) Don't own a car until you are older.
Also, insurance tends to cost more while living in Florida than most other places, so even if you find insurance that you can afford now, you still shouldn't get a car, because you won't be able to afford what it will cost to keep the insurance when you get to Florida.

If you can't afford the insurance, you can't afford the car. I'd suggest you sell the car and wait a few more years, until you are working full time and are older - or cut a deal with dad to pay the difference.

Is it crazy or completely accurately priced for an 18 year old? Get another job if you cannot afford the premium, that's the simple thing to say.
You can move the vehicle into your name and buy your own policy with lower limits than your parents, that would likely save a bunch of money as long as your credit is decent.
