It depends on what you believe. If you're a christian, the Soul is everything. It is all of your emotions and it is what makes you alive. It is what allows you to rise to heaven after death or be trapped in Hell.

To them a body is only temporary.

In other religions, the soul is what makes reincarnation possible, where the soul of someone who dies comes into a newborn and allows that soul to live again.

Some people believe there is no soul, everything that you feel is based on your body and chemicals released from your brain, not your soul.

    you appear to be confused

    soul = body + spirit

the human body is made of ordinary dirt/dust/clay and as you know, these things have no life in them

the spirit is that force which animates an otherwise lifeless body made from the earth - just as scripture details

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

    Elements in the Human Body

    Element/Percent by Mass

    Oxygen 65

    Carbon 18

    Hydrogen 10

    Nitrogen 3

    Calcium 1.5

    Phosphorus 1.2

    Potassium 0.2

    Sulfur 0.2

    Chlorine 0.2

    Sodium 0.1

    Magnesium 0.05

    Iron, Cobalt, Copper, Zinc, Iodine

    Selenium, Fluorine

The body does not function without a soul. We are our soul. Everything we feel, touch, hear, see comes from our soul. It's alive within us.

Because otherwise it wouldn't be alive?

Btw, I looked up the etymology of the word "soul", and found the entry very interesting, so I thought I'd share it with you. The last sentence made me laugh.

    "soul (n.1)

"A substantial entity believed to be that in each person which lives, feels, thinks and wills" [Century Dictionary], Old English sawol "spiritual and emotional part of a person, animate existence; life, living being," from Proto-Germanic *saiwalo (cognates: Old Saxon seola, Old Norse sala, Old Frisian sele, Middle Dutch siele, Dutch ziel, Old High German seula, German Seele, Gothic saiwala), of uncertain origin.

Sometimes said to mean originally "coming from or belonging to the sea," because that was supposed to be the stopping place of the soul before birth or after death [Barnhart]; if so, it would be from Proto-Germanic *saiwaz (see sea). Klein explains this as "from the lake," as a dwelling-place of souls in ancient northern Europe.

Meaning "spirit of a deceased person" is attested in Old English from 971. As a synonym for "person, individual, human being" (as in every living soul) it dates from early 14c. Soul-searching (n.) is attested from 1871, from the phrase used as a past participle adjective (1610s). Distinguishing soul from spirit is a matter best left to theologians."

It doesn't. Think about clones for instance. We have the tech to clone humans. We've already cloned foxes. Would a clone of you also have your soul?

    Soul

Definition: In the Bible, “soul” is translated from the Hebrew ne′phesh and the Greek psy·khe′. Bible usage shows the soul to be a person or an animal or the life that a person or an animal enjoys. To many persons, however, “soul” means the immaterial or spirit part of a human being that survives the death of the physical body. Others understand it to be the principle of life. But these latter views are not Bible teachings.

What does the Bible say that helps us to understand what the soul is?

Gen. 2:7: “Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul.” (Notice that this does not say that man was given a soul but that he became a soul, a living person.) (The part of the Hebrew word here rendered “soul” is ne′phesh. KJ, AS, and Dy agree with that rendering. RS, JB, NAB read “being.” NE says “creature.” Kx reads “person.”)

1 Cor. 15:45: “It is even so written: ‘The first man Adam became a living soul.’ The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.” (So the Christian Greek Scriptures agree with the Hebrew Scriptures as to what the soul is.) (The Greek word here translated “soul” is the accusative case of psy·khe′. KJ, AS, Dy, JB, NAB, and Kx also read “soul.” RS, NE, and TEV say “being.”)

No. There are a lot of people walking around on Earth without a soul. Can't you tell who they are?

Demons live inside clones. Jesus died for all sins committed by all.

Jesus said that you have to drink His blood.

All people have soul, body, and spirit.

    In animals, blood substitutes soul.

That's why you're forbidden to drink animal blood. Animals don't have spirit.

You're forbidden to drink human blood (like during blood transfusion) because sins transfer.

You're told to drink blood of Jesus (because He's sinless) so that your sins are forgiven.

Dogs are not allowed in your home and your church because the Holy Spirit will leave.

Supposedly, white magic helps people, while black magic harms, but, in reality, both cause harm. Casting spells is asking demons for help.

Thoughts and dreams have 3 sources:

    1)God and angels,

    2)demons,

    3)yourself.

Most thoughts and dreams are from demons.

    Demons never do good.

Pray the Jesus prayer slowly always:

"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner."

To have normal sleep, pray to your guardian angel.

Concerning any thought or dream, consult your local Orthodox Christian priest.

Demons pretend to be ghosts and aliens. Don't go into a UFO to be healed by demons.

If you're in trouble (demon "alien" abduction, about to be 666ed, sleep paralysis), then pray the Jesus prayer.

Occult stuff (tarot cards, amulets, skulls, masks, talismans, barcodes, etc.) attracts demons. Barcode is Druid black magic curse.

Get rid of all Occult stuff.

Ask Orthodox Christian priest to bless your house. To break any curse, pray slowly the Psalm "the Lord is my light and my salvation" 40 times a day for 40 straight days. That's 1600 times in total.

Antichrist will rule over the whole world except Orthodox Russia.

There will be a Tsar in Russia to not allow this antichrist to rule in Russia.

Antichrist is pale with red eyes and flies because he's possessed by Satan. 666 is given by isotope rays on wrist or forehead when people stretch hands to receive small plastic grey card (world passport).

Police will microchip and isotope ray people on highways. Food stores will isotope ray people too. Antichrist will also release prisoners to mark people. Reject 666 at all cost. Go hide with Orthodox Christians to escape 666.

Don't go into a UFO to be healed by demons. Those who reject 666 will go to heaven. Also, their direct ancestors will be saved from hell.

Give to charity in the name of Archangel Michael.

It doesn't. A live body, with a mind, is a "soul". We are living souls, so are many animals.

    It doesn't.

That's why no one has ever found any evidence of such a thing.

Cue people stating that "there is a measurable drop in body weight when someone dies".... even though such claims are COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.
