    The second sentence is not correct.

    The apostrophe in the first sentence is correct but there is a grammatical error further on. It should be:

    My partner's work transferred him from an American to an English employee.

    However, it may be better to say:

    The nature of my partner's work meant transferring from an American employee to an English one.
