Why is racism still so widespread in America?
In reading many posts--both political and cultural--some of the questions and answers on Yahoo Answers reek of racism. Why is it so prevalent In America? Isn't it time for all of us to share this planet in harmony?

It's actually quite widespread in many other places. They simply don't talk about it openly, whereas it is regularly part of public discourse in the US. That can give the impression that we have more racial problems than other places do, but in reality, our openness about the issue, even when it involves real racial clashes and conflicts, is a healthy sign.
