Really there is a very BIG DIFFERENCE...
GUI or at times called: Gooey ("gee-you-eye").
GUI is a User Interface for users to use their Eyes to navigate a application... through the use of Graphics.
Before GUI computers were all Terminal based... or Command Line Interpreted.
Windows 95 was the first successful Desktop PC distribution with a GUI... although their was many before its time...
Even DOS implemented a GUI with an Icon you clicked on for | Save | Don't Save | Cancel |
So GUI is just a Graphical way to maneuver an application.
Now NGUI is an application for created UI (User Interface) for Unity applications (games).
Its based on designing in Wysiwyg or WIZ-ee-wig... is What You See Is What You Get...
You basically layout your elements on a platform rather than building them up by code with hard coded measurements. wysiwyg lets you design in a GUI... sounds complicated if you have no idea of building a User Interface. But basically it makes it Easy... It just always better to start off with a wysiwyg application then throwing your code into a wysiwyg application like NGUI.
