Just diagnosed bipolar? Handling friendships?
I was just diagnosed as bipolar. My friendships are currently suffering as recently hav been very manic, and put my foot in my mouth several times. This was difficult for both myself and them to understand. At the moment I'm being excluded, and gossiped about socially. It feels horrible because I rly do need support right now.
How can I maintain relationships with my illness? I start off with brilliant friendships, but they tend to fall apart because I will go through an episode. At least now I know the problem. Please help me?

Are any of your friends open to understanding more about bipolar? If they are, maybe give them links to sites like these: http://www.helpguide.org/articles/bipolar-disorder... and
http://www.dbsalliance.org/site/PageServer?pagenam...
And then sit down and talk with them about what they've read, what questions they have and what your experience has been like. The better they understand the illness, the more likely they will be able to understand and support you. It can be really hard to reach out though and ask for support. Depending on the circumstances, you may find that your friendships will change over the next while.
