Why is PATA/IDE to USB adapter the same thing as USB to PATA/IDE?
I want to convert the IDE on the motherboard to additional USB capacity, but no matter how I search all I keep finding is an adapter to connect an IDE drive to a USB port. THAT'S NOT WHAT I WANT! What word combination can I use to find what I want?

You'll have a hard time finding an IDE to USB adapter. If your systems motherboard has a vacant PCI card slot, a PCI to USB card would be an easier to find option.
