In my opinion PS4 is better, the games are cheaper (slightly) and the Play Station company wont bring out another console for about 5 years. As for Xbox One, it sucks, you're better off getting an Xbox 360, but then you can''t get the new games. Xbox one's console is very similar to the PS4 and the PS4 was announced first, so they stole the design. Xbox one is most likely to start overheating after about a year and won't last as long as a PS4, but the Xbox One is more popular, so if you're going for popularity by bragging about your Xbox One, then that's your console, but if not, spend your money better on a great PS4.

It depends on what your online status is. If you don't play may games online (Like myself) then I would recommend Xbox. However if you do play a lot of online the obvious drawback is that the Xbox costs more to play online. Having said that, it may be worth the extra money if you play lots of online as the Xbox live service is better. Also I find the Playstation controllers to be far too small and uncomfortable. Still it's up to you though and I am not biased in any way towards Xbox. I used to prefer Playstation but now prefer Xbox as it suits me best, so whatever you choose as long as it suits your needs best that's all that matters. Have fun playing on whatever you buy :)

    I say PS4

PS4 will have "share play" which allows you to play a friend's game or share yours online. Basically your friend will give you the controls to his game without you having it. They now have 8 player "party chat." The system is more powerful than the xbone. Huge library of games since the ps1 and japanese imports. The "Playstation Now" which lets you rent and buy classic games from ps3 to ps1. The controller has a built in mic in which you can use voice commands to operate the system or games with make sounds come out of the mic. Touch pad controller. It's slimmer than the xbone. I could go on but I'm keeping it brief.

Xbox One, I haven't used a PS4 extensively but my friends traded theirs in for Xbox One's due to the lack of games apparently. Xbox has always had better online, and the One has far more extra features than PS4 (snap, kinect, etc.) I also prefer the Xbox's game library, which is stronger at the moment and has more games that interest me coming out in the future. But where your friends play is very important, if they all have one you should get that as you don't want to miss multiplayer with your friends especially with all the multiplayer-centric games coming out in the future.

I had the ps4 sold it to a friend because the touchpad controllers are really hard to deal with, they are kind of finicky and sensitive, it was a preference of mine. But i have always favored xbox slightly. I have played a little bit on the xbox one, don't own one personally, but i really like the way it plays. I think it all comes down to which one you have favored in the past. Also if there are any specific games that may come out for one or the other that you are specifically interested in that's another great way to decide! Hope that helped a little! :)
