How can I untangle my yorkie's (dog) hair?

The long black strands falling from his ear has become matted and tangled. He is generally blond and the black strands are therefore part of his cuteness, and the wife refuses to allow me to cut it

Get a comb and comb it out, if it's tough put some of the dogs shampoo or conditioner on it and wet it a little then comb again, this time it should be easier to comb out, if it's still stuck then it will need to be cut, but I wouldn't recommend doing at home because you could easily ruin his "cuteness" instead bring him to a groomer and they will know exactly what to do and your dog will look better than ever.

A Yorkie needs to see a groomer at least once every few months. Take your dog to the groomer, get him clipped and the matted hair removed. This can be very uncomfortable for him. Establish a a grooming regime ensuring he sees the groomer at least once every 3 months to prevent any matting.

If you can't comb it out, you have to cut it. I will grow back. Keep him groomed so you won't have to cut it again. Mats are nearly impossible to comb out. You can try a mat splitter. You cannot leave them they will start to pull the skin which is painful to the dog.
