Red dot rifle scope on a shtgun?

A buddy of mine is looking at getting a red dot scope for his 12 gauge pump and found a red dot rifle scope that he is interested in. I am not familiar with red dot scopes, is it alright to put a rifle red dot rifle scope on a shotgun?

...a couple of points. (1) red dot optics on a shotgun really aren't necessary for hunting purposes and limited use for home defense. (2) most males see green a lot better than red. Case in point...my avatar scope. It has a green laser attached and can be seen at long distances. IF you are set on getting a RED dot....try a green, too.

Just have to mention, the guy is asking a question because he doesn't know. Those of you who have no clue decide to trash him. Well played. Not! A yes or no would suffice, maybe accompanied with actual experience.

shotguns are only good for a 100 yards or so and they;re not "precision" firearms - spray gun.

so a red dot scope is not really necessary.

There's no point, they have such a low range that it would be redundant. Also if you were to scope with a shotgun they kickback would most likely damage your shoulder.

That's like buying a cheese grater for string cheese

works great on call of duty...should be fine for your buddy
