Female and male chinchilla cage problem...?

Hi so i a Have a almost 3 year old chin, and i would like to get a 2 month old baby, chinchilla. The thing is, the cages are only a foot away from each other, who there be any issues? The would be the only interaction the would have. A female is very friendly and loving, and i wouldn't want to wreck that. I would give them both an equal amount of attention. And i have done me research on both male and female chinchillas.

Update:

Would she spray, or would there be a problem when she goes in heat?

If you have a female, then you shouldn't get a male. Stick to same-sex pairings for their own health and safety, because it's a bit cruel that you have animals that MIGHT want to be together, but never can be. NEVER mix males and females. Males can get quite aggressive around females, and even if you're careful, chinchilla sex can happen in seconds to get the female pregnant. You're not an experienced breeder, and letting random animals breed is really really irresponsible for genetic reasons, not to mention the health of your female.

If they hate each other, it will be extremely stressful being so close to each other. Yes, chances are that your female will begin to spray to mark her territory.
