Can someone check out this question on functions for me please?

If f(x)= x^3 +2x^2 +5x -8 and g(x)= 2x^3 -3x +2 find:

a value of a such that f(a) = 0

I just tried this question and I thought it was to be done like this:

x^3 +2x^2 +5x -8= 0

and then i tried to factories and solve it, but that didn't work out well :/

Can someone else have a look and show me what you got?? Thank you!

Is there something missing? Why do we have f(x) & g(x). Do we find f(a) seperately? or is there a comination function?
