How dangerous is abdominal hernia surgery for someone over 80 ?

I know every surgery brings risks with it but I was just wondering if this particular operation is routine or performed often and how risky is it ?

I know of an elderly neighbor in his 80s who just had this surgery and he apparently died from a heart attack after the operation, but the guy seemed to be in fine health just a week ago .. Is it just a case of surgery being too much for someone that age ?

"Post hoc ergo propter hoc" is a logical fallacy old enough to have been recognized when a lot of people actually spoke Latin.

Of course the surgery was major, since men in their eighties NEVER have heart attacks. Listen to yourself!
