Most families spend $500-1000/year on homeschool curriculum. Try to pick items that fit your children's needs, interests, and learning style instead of just low cost. To save money, look online for used books (sites like Amazon or e-bay) or ask other homeschool families if they have anything they no longer need they would sell or loan you. Also, some public schools may loan textbooks to homeschool students. You can also use library books for history, science, and literature/reading but that may take more effort on your part to be sure you don't have any gaps.
