How has the word "believe" come to such ill-repute among atheists when scientists constantly use the word.?

Just google the phrase "scientists believe that" and you get 14 million hits which is many more hits than if you try "scientists think that".

Beliefs make up all of what we know, whether in religion or science. Any philosopher or thinking person could tell you that. There is no objective knowledge.

Actually, it's the fundamentalists in this forum who try to take "belief" in that context (meaning a hypothesis formed out of EVIDENCE) and say "see you have religious faith too" (which means a belief held WITHOUT EVIDENCE or IN DENIAL OF EVIDENCE).

Yes, "belief" is a perfectly good word in the English language. It's why you believe something that's the real question.
