I am a waitress at Amalfis. I was wondering what I should do about my employer, they are witholding my paycheck because I missed work 1 day?

Update:

they said that if i keep asking about it, that theyll rip it into pieces, and that i wont get it for another 50 days....Also, they deduct money from me if their cooks mess up the food, and the customers want it re-made? Is this illegal? Would I be better off taking a police officer up there, or contacting the Department of Labor? Thanks!

If you come to work late, then of course you're going to get your paycheck docked. And, if you keep asking about it by being a pain, then they have every right to delay your check as long as they want. Next time, come to work in time.

Also, the cooks are probably messing up the orders because you can't get the customers' orders right. If a customer asks for a steak medium rare and you tell the cook it's supposed to be well done, and then the customer complains, it's YOUR FAULT. Not the cook's.

Sounds like you're being a real pia over it. You might want to ask one more time and mention that you'll talk to the labor board about getting your check for you - (they will tell you that you'll need to give it 30 days) - you will probably get your check and the boot too, which may not be a bad thing.

Not sure about the remaking of food thing, but frankly if a boss did this too me I would tell him to shove it up his @$$ and walk.

    A cop will do nothing.
