does the uk armed forces have to pay train fares to and from barracks.?

    It depends on the purpose of the journey. Officers may issue travel warrants for journeys on forces business. For leisure travel you can get a Forces Railcard for a 34% discount which does also apply to the cheaper 'Advance Purchase' tickets
