Hard stuff but not impossible, you gotta get some scales and practice them, upwards and downwards, also diverse guitar techniques like bending the strings, tapping, hammering, slides, etc. Get the metronome and practice listening to songs, the key here is to listen to the tempo carefully so the notes you play can match the song, applying all the techniques and scales using your imagination according to the main chords. As I told you it's difficult, but with lots of practice you can start to make your own on a simple way for the beggining. good luck.

Many beginners lead tutorials are going to use the pentatonic scale. It is a very easy scale and there are tons of lessons on youtube to teach you this scale and all 5 of it's positions. Also there is nothing wrong with using tab. I've played with many very good guitarist over the years and almost none of them could read standard notation. Yes, if you plan to go to college for music, or be a session player, etc. then reading notation is necessary. But for your average hobbyist player it is not necessary.
Most guitar teachers do teach tab to their students, and for a good reason. Ignore the cork sniffers that say you aren't a real musician if you read tab, they just have their heads up their ***.
