Boy troubles?

In one of my classes we have assigned seats and for this quarter (10 weeks) I'm sitting next to the guy Ive started to have an interest for. He's a year older than me (I'm in an advanced class) and according to the way we sit in this class he's my partner so we have to do partner quizzes and worksheets together. I really don't want to look like a fool in front of him and I really want him to like me what should I do? How can I make him notice me as more than a just a class partner? I don't know how to start a conversation with him to even get to a friendship stage...idk I just really don't know what to do I really want him to like me. Please help!!
