Should I buy a new mazda 3?

So now I have a 2001 Jetta TDI and it will be needing work soon like a new clutch and it needs a new armrest. I love it and the fuel economy but I work at a mazda dealer and would love A new mazda 3. I wouldn't get the same fuel mileage I'm assuming but it would be nice to have a new car. What should I do?

Where I live diesel fuel is currently $1 more per gallon than 87 octane regular gasoline. I don't know what kind of mileage you get with your old TDI Jetta, but the Mazda 3 with the 2.0L 4 cylinder will get close to 40mpg if you drive it in the same way you'd drive your TDI Jetta to maximize fuel economy.

Factor in the higher price of diesel fuel compared to gas right now and I bet you wouldn't spend much if any more for fuel in the Mazda 3 than for your diesel Jetta. And the cost of clutch replacement in the Jetta will pay for a LOT of gasoline in a newer car. I'd say now is a good time to sell the Jetta. The diesel models hold their value really well and as long as the clutch still works you'll do very well in resale/trade on it.
