Can you use a recipe for French bread to make rolls with a hard crust?

In other words, instead of shaping into a long baguette, just divide the dough into smaller pieces, let rise and bake as you would French bread.

Sure, why not? Brush them with an egg wash for a nice, shiny crust. Just keep an eye on them, as the baking time will be shorter.

Yes you can just keep an eye on the baking time, but there shouldn't be much difference

I always have, no matter what dough you use.
