is it possible to connect todays satellite tuners to one of the older large antennas or would the signal be too strong?

Update:

Every time we get a heavy rain we lose our signal.

I was wondering if a stronger signal from a larger antenna would prevent this.

Or am I just pissing up a rope

Signal strength isn't the reason why it won't work.

The main problem is that the LNB

has to be designed for the correct frequency range.

The "old" ones use frequencies that are very different

from what the "new" ones use.
