should i get a new camera or not?

im 17 and im planning to take photography and film in college next year so i bought a nikon D5100 a while ago and i finally got a job and can afford lenses and stuff for it but i noticed where i live literally no where sells nikon lenses. if they do stores have like 2 (50mm & 100mm)

im getting really annoyed because i can never find nikon stuff its always canon.

i dont have a credit card or a source to buy anything online.

should i sell my camera and get a canon?

my parents tell me its a bad decision if i get a canon because nikon are better

which one is better??

if i get a canon i wanna get either the T3I because i hear a lot of good stuff about it or save and get the

EOS 70D

what should i do?

what other canon cameras are good??

Dont sell your camera . That's a great beginners dslr . Once you develop better skills at it then yes upgrade to a better . Stay with nikon ! You obviously have Internet so order online like at Amazon ebay and b&h they sell really good priced lenses . If you don't have a bank account maybe you can work something out with your parents like you give them the money and they let you use their credit card . Hope this helps

You have a job so get a debit card. At 17, I would really recommend something less complicated and go for the Canon 450D. It's a dream for beginners and the auto mode is excellent. Look on E bay and see that you can get a lot for £300 (camera body+2 lens).

I agree with fhotoace - switching now is the wrong thing to do. I don't agree that Nikon or Canon is better than one or the other. I can find examples of Sony or Pentax cameras that are better than either one.

If you have the money, then give it to your parents and have them buy your gear online for you. Good places to buy new gear are bhphotovideo.com, adorama.com, and amazon.com. You can buy used and get a lot more for your money - check out keh.com for great used gear that has been checked out to be in good working order and that comes with a 6-month warranty.

Unless you've seen the light and are going for a Pentax, stick with what you've got.

Seriously, Nikon want the best sensors. That's why they (and Pentax) buy them in from Sony - Canon make their own, but could do better. It wouldn't be the first time I've travelled specifically to buy a piece of kit I wanted, and it won't be the last. It's stupid and expensive to change systems.

Nikon and Canon are on a par with each other. Neither is "better"

Keep the Nikon and buy on line; I'm sure your parents will let you use their credit card as long as you pay them back.

"where i live literally no where sells nikon lenses."

Not a problem, if you don't mind ordering online:

    http://www.adorama.com/

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

    http://www.keh.com/

Why put up with two choices from one brand?

"im planning to take photography and film in college next year …"

Doesn't hurt to wait until then. There may be better camera shops around.

Keep the Nikon . And you can buy prepaid credit cards ! They allow you to add any amount you want.

Agree with the others - keep the camera & get your parents to buy you what you need & you give them the money.
