What is "brain freeze"?
Everytime I eat ice cream, my husband is amazed and always asks "aren't you getting any brain freeze from that?" I really don't know what pain he is referring to and do I have some neurological dysfunction since I do not experience this extreme discomfort?

An ice-cream headache, also known as brain freeze, cold-rush, cold-stimulus headache, or its given scientific name sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia (meaning "nerve pain of the sphenopalatine ganglion"-and is also considered a misnomer since the pain nerves have nothing to do with the sphenopalatine/pterygopalatine ganglion, but travel along the trigeminal nerves described below), is a form of brief cranial pain or headache commonly associated with consumption (particularly quick consumption) of cold beverages or foods such as ice cream and ice pops. It is caused by having something cold touch the roof of the mouth (palate), and is believed to result from a nerve response causing rapid constriction and swelling of blood vessels or a "referring" of pain from the roof of the mouth to the head. The rate of intake for cold foods has been studied as a contributing factor.

brain freeze is basically when your head suddenly feels really cold after you've eaten/drinken something really cold (like ice cream or smoothie). you do not have neurological dysfunction, dont worry, only some people get brain freeze. Its really not a pain, just a sudden shock to your head or brain. :)

To me they are two totally different things. I would use brain freeze to describe a mental block, whereas brain fart is when you say one thing but meant to something else. A freudian slip is an example of a brain fart. This is only my personal opinion.

What it feels like it when you eat or drink something really cold, and your two front teeth feel like they're like frozen. It has nothing to do with the brain it just feels like your two front teeth and your brain are frozen. It usually happens if you drink or eat something too cold too fast. Hope this helps.

Headache caused by exposing the roof of the mouth to too much cold food or drink too fast. You can get rid of it by pressing your tongue against the roof of your mouth.
