By best friend recently passed away?

she took an interest in wild birds this past spring because I feed them. She was especially fond of the Pileated Woodpecker that suddenly started to come around. Haven't seen one in my yard in many years. The day b4 she passed one came to visit that I had not seen since early summer. A few days after she passed I had a dream about a Pileated woodpecker which left me both calm and with a sort of happiness upon waking up. Was this a message from my friend to let me know she is alright?

Dreams are manifestations of our beliefs, fears or current situations. Sometimes they seem to take on some deeper meaning, other times they are merely random events.

I had a dream of a truck falling out of an airplane. I watched the truck fall and fall and fall. Finally it hit the ground and there was a thunderous explosion. My wife came running in telling me something outside exploded. I told her I was dreaming, not realizing that the explosion was something that REALLY happened. She managed to awaken me enough to realize there was commotion outside. When I went to see what was going on it turned out someone ended their life using a hand grenade in the alleyway.

So I heard the explosion in my sleep and my brain dreamed in an instant - IN REVERSE. Dreams and memories work exactly the same way. The only difference is that a memory creates a connection in the brain where a dream is a temporary connection that has no meaning. The brain then invents something somewhat logical to explain the otherwise "Memory".

You lost a friend. I'm sorry to hear that. I've lost friends too. Your common interest in birds was something the two of you shared (if I read your statement correctly). Seeing the bird in the dream was the result of a random chemical connection that the brain interpreted as a sign from your friend. Nothing more.

Now, I don't want to take away from anyone their right to believe as they choose. But I don't share the notion that the dead can communicate with the living. Nevertheless, the reason you felt the calm (as I can explain) is that you sincerely felt you received a message from her. Don't let anyone take that away from you. The calming effect was (in my opinion) due to the brain resolving a conflict. I've experienced total calm during and shortly after some of my dreams. The brain can be a powerful thing. It can make you run at the sound of a leaf being blown by the wind or it could make you stand firm against a hurricane.

All that being said, I don't think it was a message from your friend. I think it is your subconscious making connections to her and to the recent past.

I was working on some plumbing in the house. That night I had a dream that - in part - involved a parade of giant plumbing parts preventing me from crossing a street. My explanation of that is that the job presented some obstacles. The dream manifested this in the fact that I was not able to cross the street.

Funny how the brain can work.

    Hope this helps.
