What can I reply to the question, "Is all your shopping done yet"?

What can I reply to people who I don't even know to the question about Christmas shopping? It's none of their business and Christmas is extremely stressful for me, I'd rather people didn't ask me about it. How can I, without being rude let people know that I don't do Christmas without sounding like a jerk? I could say I'm Jewish perhaps? Please help.

I answered that question with a simple, "I don't shop," which naturally led to, "why?" I said because I'm a Jew. She said, "but don't you worship Jesus????" And then told me they had someone at church teaching them Judaism. "Maybe she's a Jewish Christian," she says!

It's much too depressing to get involved with people who are ignorant of Judaism. In the future, I'll smile and say yes.

But I still like to reply to "Merry Christmas" with a very enthusiastic "Happy Hannukah!"

As a Jew I simpl say, "I don't celebrate Christmas."

That normally results in one of two responses:

    1. "Oh."

    2. "Ohhhhh, that's so sad, I feel sorry for you."

Response 1 gets a "No worries, have a good one."

Response 2 gets a "Don't feel bad for me, I've always pitied you guys for having to go into debt buying presents for your holiday."

Just say politely that you never answer that question.

  • I would say "Nah I'm not about that shopping and Christmas life, I'm Jewish and Hanukkah is life." I'm not trying to offend, but seriously if I was Jewish I would legit say this.
